More and better housing

As a Combined County Authority, we would work with local authorities, landowners, developers and the full range of housing providers to create affordable, good quality housing options and to retrofit existing homes to be more environmentally sustainable.

We could use new powers to buy land and housing, with the consent of district and borough councils and it could mean new and better standards for homes, low carbon measures, and improvements to existing housing.

It would mean £16.8 million a year would be available for building new homes on brownfield land, subject to suitable areas being identified. £9 million would help to support the delivery of housing priorities and new, broad powers would allow us to acquire and dispose of land to build houses, commercial space and infrastructure, for growth and regeneration.
